" Thou comest to me with a sword and a spear and a shield, but I come to thee in the name of the L-rd of Hosts, the G-d of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast humiliated..." (I Samuel, 17:45-47)

Shavuot: Recieving The Whole Torah

We are about to celebrate the festival of Shavuot, which marks an unprecedented event in world history. The entire Jewish nation witnessed the mass revelation of the divine Torah on Mount Sinai, a claim that no other religion would dare to make. This revelation was passed down for thousands of years with the conviction that only a truly historical event could generate.  With the Torah comes the awesome responsibility to follow it in entirety.

All of it.

The laws of erev, Shabbat, brit milah, mikvah, lulav and etrog, along with the the provocative mitzvot that make certain Jews uncomfortable. Such as the commandment to burn down an Ir Hanidachat (idolatrous town), and the obligation to carry out the brutal laws of Jewish warfare (during an obligatory war) which leave no citizens alive. Torah doesn't come in slices. You need the take the whole pie. On the day that the Jewish nation accepts the entire Torah without distorting or corrupting it, we will ensure the coming of the true Messiah in our times.

Chag Sameach.
